ARGOS New Road For Heavy Trucks

To support the continued growth of operations at the ARGOS Cement Terminal in Pointe Blanche, our client required an expansion of the existing roadway infrastructure to improve access, circulation, and maneuverability for heavy trucks involved in daily cement transport activities.

AREA ASSOCIATES was commissioned to develop a robust engineering solution capable of accommodating high-frequency heavy vehicle traffic and significant axle loads. The project involved the widening of the existing roadway and the structural design of a heavy-duty pavement system engineered to withstand demanding operational conditions while ensuring long-term performance and durability.

Given the magnitude of the loads and the operational requirements of the terminal, a specialized concrete pavement system was designed using interconnected slab panels with dowel connectors, allowing controlled independent movement between slabs while minimizing stress concentrations, cracking, and premature deterioration. The pavement structure incorporated high-strength concrete, welded reinforcement mesh, and engineered synthetic fibers to enhance load distribution, crack control, and overall structural resilience.

The result was a durable, high-performance roadway specifically designed for industrial use, providing safe and efficient access for heavy transport operations while reducing long-term maintenance requirements.

Scope Executed: Over 1,600 m² of heavy-duty concrete pavement construction.
